A nationally recognized police trainer and consultant, Michael has trained thousands of police officers across the United States and overseas.

Senior Consultant Michael Nila refers to policing as his "vocation" rather than his job. Clients value his expertise in designing and delivering training and consulting solutions that are unique to law enforcement settings.

Michael is a retired commander of the Aurora Police Department. Through his efforts, the department gained national recognition for its innovative policing and aggressive strategies to develop community policing. The U.S. Attorney General has recognized the Aurora Police Department, along with only six other departments in the nation, as a "success story in community policing." Michael was selected to assist in developing the Justice Department's Community Policing Consortium in Washington, D.C., and he remains the lead trainer for the Office of Community Oriented Policing as well as for the five national major police organizations.

Michael has also been influential beyond U.S. borders, training the Greek National Police and police in South Africa, Botswana, and Puerto Rico in community policing. Following the U.S. invasion of Panama, the Justice Department selected Michael as the only U.S. police officer to provide full-time assistance in developing a national police force for the newly installed democratic government of Panama. Michael has also trained officers from several Latin American countries through the Anti-Terrorist Assistance Program.

An advocate of diversity, Michael has been instrumental in developing diversity-training programs for police officers as well as successfully implementing them within his own departments.
